I am Stressed..

Like many, I have been disturbed by the financial turmoil we've been experiencing. I'm also worry about my new job situation. Do you think they might call me and take the offer back? And I become jobless suddenly? I hope they would not do something like that but I am trying to get ready something like that just because I want to be ready for any bad news. At the same time I'm aware that it is not healthy to think the way I do... My first day will be in Oct 1st and I can not wait to start. God please I hope they dont change their mind..

Did you sign a contract with them? It seems like if they went to the trouble of making you go on five interviews they aren't going to change their mind at this point! Don't worry!

I only signed the offer letter. That's about it. :(

The offer letter IS a contract. Most likely it said something to the effect that they are offering you this job at x amount a year and you are agreeing to accept it. It has legal consequences on both sides.

Should it come to that you can say relying on this offer produced detrimental effects. In law it's called "detrimental reliance" and you can get money for it in court.

But that's just legal nonsense and nothing to worry about because of course they won't change their minds. When do you start?

Thanks SN for the explanation.I will be starting on oct 1st. I found this line on the contract.
Your employment is at will. Either you or the Company may terminate this employment relationship at any time for any reason with or without cause. No one has the authority to change the terms of this employment agreement except by a written agreement signed by both parties. Arg...

Good luck with your new job! I agree with Sallie's Niece, don't worry, it's pretty unlikely they will recind the job offer.

    Hi Chicky...
Don't worry! Even though your position with the company is an "at will" position, there are a number of reasons why they won't retract the offer. A BIG reason is that it's considered VERY unprofessional to make an offer after such a comprehensive interview process only to change their minds. Also, if they made you an offer after so many interviews, you can be assured that they WANT you to work for them! Even with the financial market in turmoil, everyone needs talented employees... Trust me, I know!!
Have confidence in your own worth! It will really pay off as you grow in your career.

Even if it's an "at-will" that doesn't make it completely shaky. They made an offer/contract, and they'd really need very strong justification for reneging.
