Discovering what it takes to say "NO" to spending "YES" to saving
PROGRESS
Hello everyone!
Welcome to Chicky Finance!
I started this blog in mid January after reading several PF blogs; I got so motivated that I decided to share my "not so smart" mistakes and hope that someone else can learn from my miscalculations at the same time witness my journey of becoming debt free! More
Today I really didn't want to come to work...This feeling comes around so often lately. I think it is time for me to change this job and find something more challenging, exciting because I get really bored of learning nothing new :(
Our moving plans to Colorado Springs is on hold for now..I will probably find out more details by next week. The last weekend was really fun; on saturday I ran 5K as you know and sunday Mr.Finance and Chicky Finance went to watch Glen Helen Hill Climbcompetion which was fun fun fun! Those guys are crazy. If any of you live in Socal, you should check them out. BTW, just you know this event is being held only once a year.
I always wanted to learn how to play a music instrument, especially violin but never had a chance, money or time to do it. I don’t know if you ever heard of Amadeus Home Music School, they claim that they can provide quality music lessons in the comfort of your home whenever you have the time. If you are interested in more details check out their website. http://www.music-housecalls.com/index.html
What a great day! Everyone is probably wondering how my first
5K run went! It was absolutely awesome, I am so pumped up; when, where is the next 5K?? Good news I did alot better than what I thought I would do, I ran 5K in 41min 50sec.(yep actually finished it without dying) :) My last personal timing on treadmill was 45 min. Since it is more challenging to run on pavement I thought I would run the same distance in 50 min, perhaps 55min. Let's talk about ranking a little bit. In my age division I was 43th out of 67. :) overall I was 480th out of 650 runners! Of course I could do better but if you consider that was my very first 5K, I did incredible.
What I would do differently?
* Wear hat! It gets really hot in Socal even 9am in the morning. My head was so hot that I thought I was going to pass out
*Have water belt! Whole time I was thirsty. Even though they had water stations, I dont think it was enough
*Wear short not pants! I wore my usual gym outfit which didnt work very well. I should have worn something lighter.
*Dont wear your everyday watch! My everyday watch is leather after running 20-25 min it made me really itichy and uncomfortable.
Overall, I feel amazing and looking forward to running next 5K which is going to be sometime in May...Yay!

Since I started blogging, I have had a budget every single pay period; except small incidents I've never gone over my budget. For that reason, I have pretty good idea where my money is exactly going. In fact, I have a very simple budget.
Here how it goes ever month;
Pay period 1
**$167-Roth 401 K
**$789 towards debt
**$400 Living expenses (grocery, gas, entertinment, lunch at work everything)
Pay Period 2
**$167-Roth 401K
**$654 Car Payment
**$400 Cost of being exist
**$135 towards debt
Overall, I'm happy. Finally I've found balance in my financial life. Once I am done with CC debt and car loan I can start putting that $1,443 towards down payment for a house. By then I will probably be making more money than I am now. So everything should work out just right.
One day, the father of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to the country with the express purpose of showing him how poor people live. They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of what would be considered a very poor family. On their return from their trip, the father asked his son, 'How was the trip?' 'It was great, Dad.' 'Did you see how poor people live?' the father asked. 'Oh yeah,' said the son. 'So, tell me, what did you learn from the trip?' asked the father. The son answered: 'I saw that we have one dog and they had four. We have a pool that reaches to the middle of our garden and they have a creek that has no end. We have imported lanterns in our garden and they have the stars at night. Our patio reaches to the front yard and they have the whole horizon. We have a small piece of land to live on and they have fields that go beyond our sight. We have servants who serve us, but they serve others. We buy our food, but they grow theirs. We have walls around our property to protect us, they have friends to protect them.' The boy's father was speechless. Then his son added, 'Thanks Dad for showing me how poor we are.' Isn't perspective a wonderful thing? Makes you wonder what would happen if we all gave thanks for everything we have, instead of worrying about what we don't have. Appreciate every single thing you have, especially your friends!
I know I am so late to post April budget for second payperiod but it is still better than never posting, right? The One of my 2008 goal was to open retirement saving account so I opened Roth 401K through my company. Since my contribution is 10%, this period I've felt the impact on my paycheck.
My income for this period $1,356. *$654- Painful car payment (paid) *$100-Gas for two weeks *$20-my co-worker's BD this month (paid) *$150- towards CC#3. My plan is to pay off CC#3 by mid May (paid) *$100- Grocery *$60 Gym-I've already cancelled my membership, therefore this should be the last time I'm paying for it. (paid) *$29 Cell phone- after I changed my plan, cell phone dropped from $70 to $30 (paid) *$167- Roth 401K (paid) *$76- Misc. Entertainment, lunch Total: $1,356 Income:1,356 Difference:"0"
So far seems I am doing ok. I still have $60 for gas, around $100 in my checking. BTW, today after I came from work, I went running but after only running 1,5 mile, I was out of breath :( 5K is 3.2 mile. *sigh*I have 5 more days to go for my first 5K!
If you are wondering how last week went as far as my goals, it was a complete disaster. I think one of the reason it went so bad because of our moving plans; I got so distracted and lost my focus.
Here is last week's results:
Goal#1-Have 3 Zero Spend Day I had only 2 zero spend days
Goal#2-Considering chocolate is my addiction, have no chocolate whole week. This was big time failure. Only 2 days I didnt eat any sweet.
Goal#3-Write an article for my sister's project which will reduce my debt for $50 Overachieved. I wrote 2 articles and made $100.
Goal#4-Study for Audit exam; module 1 and 2 Total failure.
Goal#5-Catch 3 PayPerPost opps (this one really takes determination) I could only catch 1 opps. But thank you so much for all who use my referral link to sign up for PPP!
Goal#6-Train for 5K everyday Nope I got F on that too.
To me it is unbelievable that sometimes what some companies require for their opps. One company, I am not going to give their name (because I don’t want to advertise them), thinks that they can buy out our opinions in exchange of money. Sad… Here is the offer; Offer amount: $5 Minim words: 300 (this is ridiculous) Tone: The tone of blog should be all of the following;
1. You think its a great program and wish other Realtors used it
2. You have checked into the program and have found everything disclosed in the program to be true, legal and accurate.
3. You have contacted our office and used the service and have benefited from the program and would recommend it to anyone you know
Basically they want bloggers to lie! Even if this company offers me $100, there is no waaay I would choose this company over my readers.
I usually pick offers 50 to 100 words and for tone it must say “buzz” or “neutral”, if I've used service before and if I was happy with their service I accept “positive”.
Let's start with What really I NEED to buy; *Jeans- I really need one. I have only one jeans and I ruined that one a couple weeks ago since then I have no jeans to wear :( I spilled something on it and whatever I used, I could not get rid of the stain. I don't need a new Jeans anymore b/c I've finally got rid of the stain.5/28/08
*Sexy Lingerie-check I go lingerie shopping once a year and it covers me for whole 365 days. The only problem is I used to buy all my lingerie from Victoria'a Secret, now I dont know what to do..Perhaps Target?
*White shirt-check I need this desperately needless to say it is only for work.
That's it!
What about WANTS?
*Digital Picture Frame- I saw one at Macy's for $69, I thought it was reasonable. I guess I'll wait a couple more months on that because there is a big possibility the price might go down even more. check!
Today all day long I've been fixing up my blog; I hope you guys like it. I am trying to make it as cute as possible because as you know cuteness is my #1. Anyways, while I was adding different widgets to my blog, I stumbled upon this website http://www.scratchback.com/BTW this is not pay per post just you know :) and also there is no affilation income involved. On the right side of my page you can see "Are you in my Top Spots?" section. Every spot on that section is only $1 and advertisers pays through PayPal. You can set up your own price. I thought $1.00 is a fair tip don't you think? :) So Far I am loving my new template although it is not as girly as I wish (working on it), what do you think?
No one is going to believe me now but we are MOVING from Orange County, California to......drumss.... Colorado Springs!!! I'm so happy, excited, butterflies are acting like gymnasts in my stomach! Last couple of days so much happening that I don't know where to start. My husband got a new position in COS and we will be most likely moving within 2 months. Downside I need to start looking for a job, scary! Oops my lunch time is over, I will write all the details tonight...
update for weekly goals: I've done 2 projects for my sister. I owe $400-$100= $300
Goal#1-Have 3 Zero Spend Day Goal#2-Considering chocolate is my addiction, have no chocolate whole week. Goal#3-Write an article for my sister's project which will reduce my debt for $50 DONE Goal#4-Study for Audit exam; module 1 and 2 Goal#5-Catch 3 PayPerPost opps (this one really takes determination) Goal#6-Train for 5K everyday
Now I know my goals for this week, I am so ready for it, Bring it on!
I'm aware that some people almost forget about money they owe to their friends and relatives, rather than paying them back first. On the other hand, I am exactly opposite, I want to pay this $400 ASAP, even though my sister is making 140K and she said she doesn't want me to worry about this amount. But don't you think when you owe money to relatives&friends there is more than money at stake?
After having conversation with my sister last friday, we came to agreement that I will contribute her new online start up company by writing articles. Every time I write a long article or contribute some other way, she is going to deduct $50 from $400 that I owe. My initial proposal to her $3 per contribution she said no way! It will be $50! I said I WILL take it :) This way I will pay back $400 quickly and help her out with her business..I'm just so thrilled!
I am tagged by fellow blogger asgreen to list random-perhaps weird things about me!
1-My favorite meal, food whatever you want to call is rice! I dont know why but I love rice and I can eat it everyday. Nowdays I'm trying to switch brown rice to be heatlthier.
2- I'm a facebook addict. I wish I could give you guys my facebook account but then I would'nt be anonymous, would I? :) I think one reason I like facebook because it connects me with all my friends back in my home country and also I dont have to update my friends one by one for news about me instead I just send a quick note on my facebook.
3-Most of my friends think I am more logical person than emotional, but they are dead wrong. I am in fact, a very emotional person. Only difference is I dont show it at all, I dont like showing my weak sides generally.
Last night I had a date...Date with my husband..We went to Hollywood Whisky a Go Goto watchDoro, formerly of the Germanheavy metal band Warlockand one of the few female singers of the 1980s heavy metal scene, which was primarily a male-dominated genre of music. Only one word can describe the whole experience, AWESOME! She is the best ever, her voice, energy level..I loved it!
My husband and I had such a great time at the concert that by the time we got back to home it was 2 o'clock in the morning..That means I could only sleep 4 hours before I came to work...I am tired but happy..
Let's get the bottom line $$ how much this wonderful date cost to us:
*Diner before the concert: $27
*2 tickets: $40
*2 beer: $15
Total: $82 You know that I have only $90 in my checking, my husband treated me which happens quite often since he is the one makes six figures and I am the one making $40K :(...
Today I got a check in the mail frominboxdollars.comif you dont know what I'm am talking about, check this post here The check is only $30.90 :) I requested this check 2 months ago and they told me that I will be getting the check the first week of April. They were right, I am holding the check on my hands and seems legitimate to me. It's not that much money but in fact, it will prevent my ship go under water this month. I have one more week to go until the next paycheck but my checking account is showing only $90, no lie. I finally paid my CPA exam fees $741 which left me with $90 until 15th! I feel relief that I finally paid the fee and got over it. (you know how I sensitive I'm about this matter)
"Before Chicky" would put that fee on CC and justify it as "Education expense". However, "New Chicky" pays everything cash or debit card! It's been 4 months I've been new chicky and seems like it's getting easier and easier every month. Since I started treating my money right, I've more money in my pocket ever! I know We all have those days we feel good and there are days we feel blue (almost purplish) but I'll tell you, today I feel really GOOD!
Spring has arrived, birds are singing... I thought there could be no better time to take a look at my 2008 goals and make some changes if any necessary.
I will feel really really good if I can accomplish,
* Reduce my CC debt to $15, 500 by December 2008
* Pass at least 2 parts of CPA exam
* Change my current job
* Run 5K
* EF $1,000
* Start Retirement saving plan
* Reduce $5,000 IRS debt to $3,000
* Pick a charity and start donating $10 (that's all I can afford) every month
* Lose 10lb. I am currently 120lb my ideal weight is 110lb.
My goals seem reasoable and attainable to me,as I said If I can accomplish every one of them, It will boost my self confidence quite a bit for 2009!
CPA exam S-U-C-K-S!! As you can read it didn't go really well and chicky is under her shell .. :( I will find out the result 3 to 4 weeks from now. In the mean time, I am going to start studying for Regulation section which has terrible reputation among cpa candidates.. At least now I know what to expect..Even if I don't pass first time, I will pass it eventually and become CPA no matter what! The reality is I have even more respect to those who have CPA title next to their name...
Ok..Just for you guys I took a picture of 5 things in my office, which wil give you better idea about my personality and who I am! BTW, I updated my detail debt payment plan. To see click here
I'm chicky! My hands always need to be soft :)
I love listening music!
I'm romantic and sensitive...
I am funny! This mice usually holds candies for visitors in my office! yum
I dream about living in a tropical island every day...
Well, don't take me wrong! I love being active, playing sport etc. In fact, on April 26 I will be running my first 5K race for a charity, yeah! The reason I will be cancelling LA fitness gym membership because it is too expensive.. I pay $60 every month(my hubby's and my fee) and I believe can do so much more activity outside of gym to be fit. For example, this sunday with my grilfriends we will be going kayaking for only $8 an hour, also I decided during lunch time, I will the use gym at work (not really fancy gym or anything), after work I will take my dog to the lake near by my house (just walking distance), since wheather is great here in OC, I can play tennis every day if I want to. As I said since there is so much sportif activity I can do without going gym, tomorrow I will stop by LA Fitness and cancel my gym membership and save that 60 bucks for rainy days!
Here is the update; I will be taking CPA exam part 1 this Saturday and I have only three more days to study..I feel butterfly in my stomach and not ready for the exam. Well, at least if I dont pass it, I will see what the exam like and pass it next time..
DAYS LEFT 24 Goal: No eating out for 30 days! How to manage: Taking lunch to work and cooking delicious dinners at home. Difficulty level: Very Difficult. I mean let’s put it this way I am truly addicted to eating out. Benefits: Health benefits, Benjamin benefits and learning how to cook without full capacity kitchen.
