Juicy News About My secret Blog and Mr. Finance

Hey everybody!
You know how I had a dilemma about telling Mr. Finance about Chicky Finance? It happened! I finally told him that I’ve been blogging since beginning of this year. Now I know you have many questions for me. Like how? Where? When?
Let's start from the beginning,

Last weekend we went out dinner to a nice restaurant.(not expensive one) We were talking about random things; career, people, dreams.(I usually talk about dreams a lot more than him)Anyways, towards the end of our dinner I said very very casually (I didn’t want to make it such a big deal);

Chicky Finance: Ohh BTW, I’ve been blogging quite a while now…(pause) but it is anonymous.
Mr.Finance calmly says: really?
Chicky Finance: YES (I got excited here) In fact your nick name is Mr.Finance
Mr.Finance: Don’t put my name out there. (he is very careful person when it comes to his privacy)
Chicky Finance: no nononono I didn’t put your name whatsoever just you have a nickname Mr.Finance (he smiles here)

First he thought I have a blog in my native language and he said;

Mr.Finance:
Well, technology is very advance I will find online translator to read your blog.

Chicky Finance: Well it is actually English.

Mr.Finance: Really?What is about?
Chicky Finance: Finance. I even made money through blogging.
Mr. Finance: How?
Chicky Finance: PayPerPost (this point he didn’t have any idea what I am talking about) Btw, I asked my readers if I need to tell you. Me and my readers decided to tell you that I am blogging.

Mr.Finance: Really? (smiles) Give me your RSS feed so I can read it.

Chicky Finance: Didn’t I tell you it is anonymous? (both smiles)

And from there we went home. I turned on my computer and open PPP website and showed him how much money I’ve made so far. It got him surprise a little bit. I didn’t show my blog.

After telling him what he needs to know I felt relief. No more being secretive is a nice feeling. At the same time I was pleasantly surprised that when he found out he was very nice about it, not pushy at all. I am planning to blogging very long time so I am glad I did told him at early stage. He is my best friend, life partner basically he is everything to me. I feel much much better now..
Last but not least, advice for other pf bloggers?

  • While telling him/her about your blog don’t make a big deal out of it. Say it as if you never intent to hide.
  • Make sure point out positive side of blogging
  • Comfort him/her about privacy

Was this news juicy enough for you? I hope it was!

Travel

Mr. Finance and I love traveling. If you ask me which one would you rather have a house or ticket for travel around world, I would definitely choose travel. “Stuff” only brings instant happiness on the other hand good memories will lead to long lasting happiness. Before I die I will not think about LV bag I could never afford, but I will smile when I fulfill my life with so many good memories. Having said that travel means $$$$. It is expensive, needs to be planned ahead and saved for.

Mr. Finance and I eventually will travel;

*Antarctica
*Alaska
*Iceland
*Brasil ~Amazons
*Hong Kong

The Heaven of Plastic Surgery

Orange County and Hollywood, Los Angeles…These places are heaven for breast augmentation and tummy tuck. Girls have big breasts and flat stomach. (not necessarily six pack abs, that takes hard work) and older ladies Beverly Hills face lift My sister gets botox every once in a while which I don’t think she needs at all. She says once you hit 30, women’s body change dramatically. I am 29, have no wrinkle.. We shall see one year from now. Anyways, Pars institute in Beverly Hills is offering many special for the cosmetic surgeries I’ve listed above. They have four convenient locations Beverly Hills, Orange County, Encino and San Dimas. As I said I don’t feel like I need one neither I have money at this point. But you know what? Never say Never!

My New Way of Budgeting

July 1-8

Gas: $68.00
Grocery: $50
Lunch: $25
Direct TV: $76
Netflix: $10
Retirement: $50
Saving:$25
Towards debt: $340

Grand Total: 644
Total income for the week: $644
Difference: $0.00

Apricots and Chicky

Confession: I am not a green thumb by any means. Even cactuses can die under my surveillance. Having said that I am a good fruit picker! We have two apricot trees in our backyard. Little bit about our house situation: We live in a million dollar house for $600 per month. (According some appraisal websites it is $1,5M) How? That’s the part I can not really share with you because it is very unique. Anyways we have 1 acre backyard, several trees. Yesterday as soon as Mr. Finance told me that apricots are ripe, I picked 2 baskets of yummy apricots. I am also thinking about veggie garden. Spilling buckets gave me this idea. I congratulate her because she managed to grow veggies in her apartment, can you believe it? She definitely inspired me; I might start planting some veggies this weekend. Mr. Finance’s already pick the spot for me~

5K Run Update…

Last weekend I was planning to run 5K with my dog. Saturday morning we woke up around 7 am, got ready and went to Newport Beach where the event took place. When I got there I realized that we were in the middle of high rise business district and we were supposed to run between corporate buildings. Hell noooooo!! I am not going to spend my Saturday morning running between stupid corporate buildings. Not inspiring at all, as if I am working in my office. My border collie and I decided to go Huntington Beach instead! What a great idea it was. We ran along the beach from dog beach to main street HB and then we went back to the dog beach and had a ball! We played together from 9 in the morning to 6pm, all day long. By the time we got home we were exhausted. Mr.Finance? He had to work over time from home all day long. I wish he were with us having fun on the beach. BTW, did you notice my dog wants to be anonymous??? Hair pose from back is the favorite pose of many PF bloggers! :)

Pleeeease come back..

After my website got messed up, I lost all of my RSS subscribers! Please come back, I need youuuu; my RSS is working now...

Home slump harder to reverse than usual: Harvard

Some of PF bloggers think that this is a great time to buy house. If you are one of them please read the article below.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Record foreclosures and limited access to credit will make it harder than usual for the U.S. housing market to rebound from this slump, the worst at least since World War Two, according to a Harvard University study on Monday.

A two-year home price drop is eating into housing wealth, curbing consumer spending and slicing away economic growth. This is unlikely to change until potential home buyers are convinced that prices have stopped tumbling, the study found.

The downturn has room to run.

The highest home loan rates in nine months and strict lending standards are keeping buyers on the sidelines, even after aggressive Federal Reserve intervention and a 16 percent national home price slide from the 2006 peak, by some measures.

Kill 2 birds w/ 1 stone

This Saturday I will be running 5K with my Border collie. The event will benefit The German Shepherd Rescue of Orange County and admission is only $10. Therefore, running and donating at the same time; 1 stone kills 2 birds! Since beginning of this month I’ve been taking my dog to jogging every day from 6 to 7.30pm, she loves it. We usually jog 10K, it is very looong.

Benefits;

  • Good exercise

  • Free (no more gym membership)

  • Bounding with my dog even more

  • Fresh air after long day
  • Do you wonder about my running shoes? I bought a new pair of shoes for $19.99+tax (no name shoes but they are solid and comfortable) Btw, while I was going through my gadget box I found Nike + I-pod gear. I remember buying this gadget maybe 2 years ago. Anyways back then I spent fortune for “special” nike shoes goes with this gadget so that you can use the device. Me being frugal now, I decided to turn my $19.99 running shoes into fancy nike + ipod shoes. I am a shoes hacker as of today! J If you are wondering what nike ipod sport kit does, it is basically tracks how many miles you walk, It comes with 2 pieces. One piece goes to your inside your shoes other part goes to your ipod nano

    Here is how you convert your regular running shoes to nike ipod shoes.
    Needed: a strip of velcro with adhesive backing, a needle and some thread.
  • First, you place the transmitter under your laces near the toe and mark the position that you want to attach the transmitter, making sure it is underneath a cross in the lace.
  • Cut a small piece of velcro and attach the “hard” side to the back of the transmitter, be careful not to cover the sleep button
  • Using the needle and thread, sew a few stitches through the velcro and the tongue of your shoe, securing them together. It can be tricky to push the needle through the layers of fabric and the velcro’s adhesive, be careful.
  • The whole process took me about 15 minutes, very easy but saved me $100++
    Wow this time I wrote long huh? See when you are passionate about something nothing can stop you spending hours to write about it even being at work :)

What is your domain score card saying?

We love score cards, don’t we? Now there is a way to score your domain. It’s a FREE quiz provided by Network Solutions. It is only 3 questions, takes less than a minute. Once you answer the questions you see your domain name analysis right away. If you have low score like me, there are ways to improve your score. It also shows you weak areas of your domain so that you can score better next time.

My domain score card is saying “1”. Not #1 it is 1 out of 10.. Well, a lots of room to improve I guess. My extension score, brand protection score and descriptive score is very bad. I guess no one understand what I am talking about when they see my domain name. The only way to improve extension score is if I buy more extensions other than dot com. What about brand protection? For example if I buy domain name “chickyfnance.com” (misspelled) That would improve my brand protection. Descriptive domain score? Nope I don’t have it.

if you want to know how your website name might score and see how you might improve it, you need to go to this website and check it out.

Gas, Gas, Gas

Last time I filled up my gas tank was on June 9th and today is June 18 and I think it is time for me buy gas again tomorrow. This time full tank lasted about 10 days which is much better than my general trend. The only thing I am more careful is “planning”. I make sure when I go out, I take care of all the things I need so that I don’t have to go to grocery 3 times a week etc.

Also there is a website called Gasedge.com which I thought is very useful. Have you wondered if the trip across to town to a cheaper gas station would actually save money on gas? This website provides us (consumers) an easy tool to find out if it is worth to drive to buy the cheaper gas. Moreover, the website contains other tips and info about how to save gas that can save you some $$.

June Budget Part 2

Nothing much exciting about this month's budget.
Basically this is how it goes;
  • Roth 401K: $167 I've not lower the contribution percentage yet.
  • Car Loan Payment: $654 Nice to watch the loan amount slowly decreasing.
  • Towards debt: $200 This one consist of transfer fee $75 and some misc. debt. That way I am officially $19K in debt
  • Living expenses: $335
  1. Gas for 2 weeks: $136 (not $100 anymore)
  2. Grocery: $100
  3. Cell Phone: $50
  4. Saving $100

According to this plan I am short for $51. I am planning to compensate this amount through passive income sources.

Job Search

Several weeks ago I wrote about why I need to change my job. I must take serious steps towards advancing my career. I've been with my current company just about 1 year. (July 20th official start date)This is my first "real" job in the States. I think it is time to move on.

Three things are important while I'm looking for a new job;
  • Salary between 50K-55K: It means my salary might increase 10-15K therefore I can become debt free quicker.
  • Advancement opps. which is lacking big time with my current company
  • Good benefits (matching 401K)-I dont have matching 401K at this moment

Now I know my goals, I can start working on it. I will update my blog every day as far as my job search goes so that I will be accountable and at the same time I will stay motivated.

Today:

  • Applied a local CPA firm mid-size
  • Filled out Ledgent.com online recruiter form. They should contact me tomorrow.
  • Renewed CalCPA membership so I can actively involve with the organization.

Decision about sharing my blog w/Mr.Finance

First; weekend recap!
This weekend was relaxing. Reading book, running with my dog, cleaning the house, washing my car, grocery shopping, drinking wine with Mr. Finance and being silly...That's about it!
Ok now about the blog; I finally made my mind. First of all, thank you all for sharing your thoughts. Here is my decision I will tell Mr. Finance. Real question is when? Now, two weeks from now, or when I am CC debt free? I think I will let Mr.Finance know about Chicky Finance (my double life) when I am compeletly CC debt free which is in October 2009. The reason for that I want him to see this blog as a journal that helps us become debt free vs "the blog" where I share our finances with whole world and nothing else. Ya know what I mean? BTW, I dont really "try" to hide this blog anymore. When he comes over my page is usually open, he uses my laptop time to time so I am not really stressing about it. Perhaps in the very near future I will just mention him that I am blogging anonymously and go from there. I'll keep you all posted.

Secrets Lives of Women!

Do you know that show "secrets lives of women"? That's what I feel like because Mr.Finance does not know about this blog. I feel guilty, really guilty guilty..I dont want to get caught. I want to be the one telling him that I've been blogging. I know Michelle over the bright side of debt got caught by her husband at the end it was not a big deal but it bothered her. Stacking Pennies' bf doesnt know about the her blog. Krytal over GMFB's bf know all about it, jim~mydebtblog's wife found out about his blog and he was not online for several months (he is back now) and list goes on...I am really confused.. :( What is your point of view? I reall need your advice..

Buckle Up! Ready for my NEW debt payment plan???

To see click on the picture

The reason I have been quite last couple of days because I was working on new payment plan andd before announcing it, I want it to make sure everything is clear and all set up. Here is what I've done last couple of day;
As you might remember I had three debt that I need to make payment every month.

  • CC#4:$1,902 interest %14 (promotional %0 interest expired) :(

  • CC#5:$3,499 interest %11 (promo %0 ended)

  • Loan: $13,670 interest %12

I hate paying interest just like any other human being would hate. So I called Wells Fargo which where I have my loan :$13,670 and ask them if they increase the line of credit so that I can consolidate all together in one account. They said yes!

The great news is;

  • $6000 increase- 0% until november after that 5.9% until June 2009

  • Loan: currently $13,000 they lowered interest rate from 12% to 8.9%

Right Now; I have total $19,000 debt. $6,000 0%, $13,000 8.9%

Also I decided to lower my retirement contribution percentage so instead of paying $1,000 towards debt I will be paying %1,300 per month.

My very first snowball payment plan was showing I would be debt free on April 2010. According to new plan and arrangement I have new snowball payment plan shows I will be debt free by October 2009!

I see the light!

ps:Excluding my car loan. By oct 2009 I will owe around $10,000 on my car.

Online shopping Trick - Promo Codes

Let me tell you Mr. Finance never goes to mall or any other places to shop. He buys everything online. He says he gets the best deals online, he can compare products and reviews in matter of seconds, and he does not have to listen those sale people who try to make sale pitch but they don’t have any technical knowledge about the product they are selling. On the other hand, I am not huge online shopper. Having said that whenever I shop online I make sure one thing: I must find a promo code! You can save money by finding coupon codes and entering them when you check out. How do I find them? It is easy. I usually check Google search first also there are thousands of Promo Codes, almost any online merchant you can think of at Ninja Coupons dot com. Check them out!

Don't spam me!

This post is not related to personal finance but I still wanted to share with you. I HATE when my friends send me those silly chain emails. Such as, ohh guardian angel will do this and that for you if you just forward this email to 15 people etc. Hate it!!!! But never told my friends not to send those kind of emails to me just because I didn't feel comfortable telling them, I didnt wnat to be rude, and didnt want to be outside of their circle. Enough! This morning I got an another silly email from my friend, lets call her "Tina". And first time, I replied to her and said exactly "Tina dont spam me :)))" by putting smiles at the end I think I lowered the tension :) so from now on I hope she will never send me spam silly emails. I mean who has that much time to have a mission to fill up friends' inbox with junk mail. Come ooon...

How to catch PayPerPost Opps

When I started with PPP back in March I was not eligible for many opps and I could never catch the ones I am eligible for. It was driving me crazy. I was wondering how in the world I can make money through PPP if I can never catch opp. Sooo I did a little research here and there. Good news is I found the secret and I will share with you.
This is how you grab opps before others do;
  • First install Firefox
  • Install the ReloadEvery Addon. Close and restart Firefox. Go here to download https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/115
  • Go to Payperpost avaliable opps page Right click anywhere on the screen. You'll see an option for "Reload." Highlight "Reload Every" and select the time frame you want to refresh the page. I always select 5 seconds. Make sure "Enable" is checked.
  • The page should now be automatically refreshing every 5 seconds so you have fresh ppp without actually putting extra effort.

If you follow this strategy, you will be one the first one seeing avaliable opps. All you have to this at this point, reserve any opp you want, write a review and make alots of money!

May Online Income

I love the idea of snowflaking. You never know how much money you will be making, it is always exciting to add up all the numbers at the end of month.
Here is May results;
Ebay: $152
PayPerPost: $57.25
Recycling: $21
PineCone research: $6

Total: $236.25 not bad huh?

Can not believe

I just can not believe this morning I paid $68 to fill up my gas tank! Just few weeks ago $50 was enough to fill it up. It is almost $20 difference, I'm still in shock I just can not believe it. I always calculate my gas as $50 perweek*4=$200 per month. I guess from now on it is;$68*4=$272

Summer Time = Wedding Time

Butterflies, sun, wildflowers flowers, fairytale and movie “Sound of Music”; two years ago those were the words our guests used to describe our wedding. I wish I could put pictures here and share with you…Every time I look at our wedding pictures, I feel sunny, and overjoyed you name it. I remember Mr.finance and I’ve taken care of every little detail. I didn’t have anybody to help me since my family back in Europe although my whole family came to our wedding which I am really grateful for. Choosing Wedding Invitations was one of the most difficult parts of wedding planning because Mr.finance is not a typical guy who lets the bride picks everything. He wanted to be involved with every little decision except my wedding dress. (He was not allowed)

Anyways back to the invitations, we ordered ours online and we had to assemble it ourselves which took me several days but overall it was fun. I don’t remember which website exactly we ordered from. However, there are so many of them out there you can pick from. I came across with a website called “1st class wedding invitations” They have an unique feature called “zoom”, you can actually see details of every invitations which is nice.. There are customizable designs that available like Intertwined Silver Foil Hearts, Silver Foil Hearts, Translucent Daisy, Silver Hearts Vellum, Heart and Rose Embossed, Soft White Rose, Daisy Border,Petite Floral Border, Turquoise Flowers, Soft White Rose and many more. Seems to me their prices are very affordable.

Plans for This Weekend

This weekend will be a busy one. Friday night Mr.Finance, I and our three friends will be going Mystery Murder Diner. I'm really curious what it is all about, if we are going to have fun or not. I paid $150 for two. We'll probably go only one time in our life time and life is all about experience not "stuff" so this diner is my reward to my husband and I for the progress we've made so far. Saturday night one of our friend is having party at her house for her PHD graduation. They live close to us so we're going to stop by, drink some wine and have a good time. Sunday,(I am already tired), my hubby and I will be going Off Road CORR racing. Mr.Finance got the tix for $92 for several months ago. Summer is fun although expensive...We love adventures and trying new things but these things cost alots of money. 10 days to go for next paycheck..I guess this is exactly what they mean by living paycheck to paycheck...

My Change Jar

Ohhh my! I already have $252 in my change jar. I plan to accumulate money in the jar until the end of this year. By December I will take it to bank and put the money towards CC debt. This is my little experiment. I want to know how much money I can accumulate by snowflaking from different sources. Do you think I can make 1,000 bucks? After analysing my trend I am hoping to have around $1,300..How do I know exactly howmuch money in the jar? Because I have one of those digital coin counting money jar which I LOVE! It is accurate, I've tested several times. It motivates me to see money growing even pennies :)

June Budget Part 1

I must say my budget will be really tight this month. I have only $142 on my checking account until the 15th. It is all my fault though. Just because several months ago I promised my friends to go "mystery murder diner" which btw costs $150 for two. (mr. finance and I) It is going to be this friday; I never been one so I am expecting to have fun especially after pre-paying $150 for diner.This was totally my mistake. I dont know why I promised....However since I promised I could not say ohh btw friends we can not afford it. As a result, now I must live on $142 for 13 days.
Here is my budget for June Part 1:
  • Roth 401K: $167
  • Mystery Murder Diner:$150
  • Gas for two weeks:$100
  • Grocery: $100 (my monthly goal is to be under $200)
  • Wedding present for Budgets are sexy Yay!: $25
  • Wedding present for coworker: $25
  • Loan repayment: $407
  • CC#5 payment: $250
  • Saving: $50
  • Clothing: $40
Total: $1,214
Income:$1,356
Difference: $142 to live on

Mrs. Chicky Finance & Mr. Finance

You probably notice that I dont generally write about Mr. Finance's money. I dont know if it would make any difference at all. Since he does not know I am journaling my finances online, I dont feel comfortable sharing his things. At the same time not only you but also I sometime forget about whole picture. I focus on too much "my personal finance" that I neglect what's going on his side. I am kind of frustrated about this. Perhaps I will share more about "our finances" than mine.
In short,
Positives and Negatives
  • We make total $152K,
  • He doesnt own any money on his car which is worth $30K.
  • He contributes his retirement regulary. It sounds stupid but I dont know how much his retirement fund is.
  • He has $60K student loan and he is paying around $3K towards it so that we can be done with our debt within 2yrs at the same time.And start saving up for our dream house and Jr.Chicky
  • He has no other debt
  • We don't own house. (our house situation very unique so I am not going to write about that subject)
  • 2 Years ago we spent all of our our cash reserve for wedding (15K) our wedding was one of a kind and (6K ) diamond(it was his decision).

Dentist Appointment

After reading Sallie's Niece and Jim~mydebtblog.com about their dentist adventures, I decided to take a look my own teeth situation. Let me give you a little bit history about my teeth. My older sister, who lives in Europe, is a dentist. Until I came to the States, she was the only one worked on my teeth. First few years in the US I didn't have a dentist, can you believe? The reason for that because I went to Europe every summer and my sister did cleaning and all other necesarry things. Since I trust my sister so much I didn't feel like I should have a dentist here. But things have been changed since I started working full-time. I have NO MONEY and NO TIME to go back to Europe to visit my family and my sister for check up. First time I went to my hubby's dentist last year in 2007, luckily he has really light hands so I was happy with him. He found five small cavities and filled them with white stuff so they are same color as my teeth. But this was last year. So after reading fellow pf bloggers, I decided it is time for me to schedule another cleaning and check up. However, I didn't know if our dental coverage covers cleaning twice a year. Yesterday I checked with my hubby, indeed it does cover so I will be making an appoinment with the dentist to make sure my teeth oooook. I will let you know the result.

ps: As you know English is my second language. Therefore, I've been probably making so many grammar mistakes so far. I just want to let you know that if you want to correct my grammar or any sentences I've written, I greatly appreciate your input.

CC#5 interest rate crisis!

Friday when I received the statement for CC#5: $3,700 I freaked out. I knew that promotional rate %0 ended this month but I didnt expect %15 interest rate either. They charge me almost $50 interest! *sigh* I was not happy at all....I called credit card company and talked to a lady who sounded very nice. I basically told her I carry over $3,000 on this account and I always pay on time. And I asked if they would consider decreasing my interest rate. I also told her if they don't I would transfer $3,700 to a different bank. She listened and said ok Ms. Chicky we will decrease your interest rate to %11. I thanked her and hung up. The whole conversation took me less than 5 min. It was easy, smooth, no drama nothing. I could have pushed for lower interest rate but I couldn't because I was calling from work and I just didn't feel comfortable negotiating in my office. So current interest rate on CC#5 is %11 which still drives me nuts but what else can I do? I guess I should work hard to pay the damn card.
